Manila SmartUps, 2020

Philippines massive spending on infrastructure totaling 180 billion U.S. dollars in the next five years in the #BuildBuildBuild program will see the Manila subway, sky train, new airport and New Clark city, 75 miles from Manila. New Clark City, 9,450-hectare by 2050, will be a global Smart City hub accommodating 1.2 million people, boasting drones, autonomous vehicles, and environmentally friendly design and technologies. It is the Philippine government’s solution to Manila population growth pressure (20,785 persons/km2) with permanent traffic jams due to overloaded metro and roads. New Clark City is poised to be the country’s first smart, disaster-resilient and green metropolis, which, upon phase1 completion (300 hectares) in 2022, is expected to already contribute significately to the national economy, reduce Manila congestions and boost the local startup ecosystem.
