Quantum
đDiamonds are changing the game for Semiconductor manufacturing, Quantum and AI. The synthetic diamond is receiving much attention from chip manufacturers due to its unique physical properties:
- Extreme Thermal Conductivity: conduct heat away from hotspots on a chip at speeds 10 to 15 times faster than traditional materials.
- Electrical Insulation: Despite its high thermal conductivity, diamond is an excellent electrical insulator
- Mechanical Hardness: Diamond is the hardest natural material known to science
- Wide Band Gap: Diamond is a wide band gap semiconductor (5.5 eV), which means it can operate under high voltages and temperatures without breaking down is better than Si, SiC and GaN
Companies like Element Six, Mitsubishi Electric and Sumitomo Electric are developing diamond materials specifically tailored for electronics, optics, and thermal management.Â
đ¤ Quantum-AI-City Fusion. Supercharging AI, diamond-based quantum chips can process at speeds silicon could only dream of, slashing AI training times from months to days. Quantum-AI could lead to smarter, faster machine learning models with unmatched computational power.
Quantum Computing and Photonics. Diamondâs wide band gap and optical properties make it a promising candidate for quantum information processing. Defects in the diamond lattice, such as nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers, can act as stable quantum bits (qubits) even at room temperature.
đŚQuantum hardware unicorns:
- IonQ and Rigetti focus heavily on cloud-based quantum access, though their systems still require cryogenics and are working on scalability and profitability.
- PsiQuantum is betting big on photonic qubits, aiming for long-term scalability still got some years to go for commercial deployment.
- D-Wave offers a more specialized quantum annealing approach, ideal for optimization problems has limited applications.Â
PsiQuantum, Pasqal and IonQ go the cryogenic way by 2030, whereas today Australian Quantum Brilliance and Xanadu offer energy-efficient, scalable solutions using diamond quantum chips that run at room temperature, making quantum computing scalable and energy-efficient.
Super-Sensitive Quantum Sensing: Perfect for everything from medical diagnostics to autonomous navigation. While Element Six and QDTI are still exploring diamond for quantum sensors, secure communication systems, and scalable quantum computers. Quantum sensing is already a market, with companies like Bosch, Lockheed Martin and Q-CTRL demonstrating field-deployable sensors for navigation, defense and industrial applications.
đThe Quantum City concept represents a self-optimizing urban ecosystem where AI and decentralized technologies supercharge economic growth. From the integration of AI and blockchain to the rise of immersive property experiences and the reimagining of urban spaces in cities. With the digital twin, creating 3D virtual replicas of buildings and urban systems, cities can optimize operations, predict maintenance needs, and enhance sustainability. Quantum Buildings with PropTech will serve as nodes in a larger urban network, sparking economic growth, innovation, and civic vitality. Â
đ Semiconductor manufacturing disruption – AI Hardware: Diamond quantum chips could finally solve AIâs growing power problem, pushing AI efficiency to new heights.
Thermal Interface Layers for AI Chips. AI chips, such as GPUs and TPUs (Tensor Processing Units), stand to benefit greatly. These chips operate at high power densities and are often the hottest components in a server rack. Diamond layers can reduce their peak temperatures by up to 30%, extending their lifespan and improving reliability.
- Googleâs AI hardware TPU ecosystem plans DiamondOnChip with server integration partner Celestica and Broadcom for ASIC design services.
- TSMC focuses on evolving Thermal Interface Materials (TIMs), silicon-integrated microfluidics, and introducing diamond substrates, pushing the boundaries of materials and advanced packaging.
- NVIDIA emphasizes MLCP, system-level liquid cooling (Direct-to-Chip and Direct-to-Silicon), and co-designing thermal and packaging architectures.
MLCP (Micro-Channel Liquid Cooling Plate) is increasingly emerging as the mainstream solution for high-power-density device cooling, thanks to its exceptionally high heat dissipation capability and compact structure. Taiwanâs four major thermal solution providers (Jentech, AVC, Auras, and Cooler Master) and Chinaâs Inspur/Invek and Ningbo Jingda have already begun sampling to NVIDIA, but production remains limited to prototypes and small batches.
Emerging Cooling innovators like Celestial AI (acquired by Marvell Technology for $3.25 billion in early 2026, uses optical signals for data transfer), Fabric8Labs (ECAM technology â an innovative copper 3D printing process, funded by NEA, Intel Capital, imec.xpand, SE Ventures, TDK Ventures and Lam Capital) and xMEMS (active micro-cooling) are reshaping the future of AI thermal solutions. Combined with complementary Diamand and a Glass substrate, German Black Semiconductor’s chip (funded with 250MEuro) based on Graphene which is highly conductive, would enable efficient conversion between optical and electrical signals, allowing faster and more energy-efficient data transfer.
đHigh-Power and High-Frequency Devices. In 5G base stations, radar systems, and electric vehicle (EV) inverters, diamond is being tested as a substrate for wide band gap semiconductors like Gallium Nitride (GaN). These materials already offer better performance than silicon in harsh environments. When combined with diamond, their thermal performance improves dramatically.
Many players have built GaN-on-Diamond IP, Korean RFHIC stands as the current leader in GaN and diamond-related IP.
- Akash Systemsâ Diamond Cooling technology got an order from NxtGen for NVIDIA H200 GPU servers, enhancing AI compute density, energy efficiency, and reducing operational costs, marking a significant milestone in Indiaâs sovereign AI infrastructure journey,
- Diamond Foundry, backed by actor Leonardo DiCaprio, has now fully funded $2.77B expansion in Spain for scale to volume single-crystal diamond (SCD) wafers.
- Japanese Orbray plans to go public by 2029, aiming to raise up to JPY 10 billion driven by its diamond substrates.
- Wonder CVD in Dubai, entered the GaN electronics patent landscape, RTX Corporation, Mitsubishi Electric, Xidian University and CETC could also pose strong future competition.
đNew to the Startup scene. Chiral is producing qubits 300x faster and growing more than 500 nanomaterials on a single chip (50x more than others). Diamfab’s application is in the field of power electronics â smaller batteries and chargers with more autonomy, will benefit from partnerships with CEA, Schneider Electric, Soitec and STMicroelectronics. Proud offers a new starting material for power electronics: a wafer based on an integrated layer of high-quality diamond and one (or more) semiconductor layers.
